Whitley Court, Worcestershire

English Heritage asked us to help with the Witley Court Estate by connecting the visitors centre with the beautiful gardens and ruins of this stunning site by introducing artistic interventions to their education room, the bathrooms and the entrance. We collaborated with the Englist Heritage Young Producers programme, who helped us build visual compositions representative of Whitley’s history and its restoration.

Witley has such a fascinating story, its past owners being key figures in the civil war and Industrial Revolution, frequented by monarchy and renowned for its opulent parties. Part destroyed by a fire and then stripped and sold off, the estate lay in ruins until it was transformed into this family attraction, its grand fountain fully restored and gardens perfectly landscaped.

At the entrance I painted an artwork drawn from the main fountain, depicting the story of Perseus and Andromeda

On the bathroom windows are a series of details taken from the two main water features.

For the education room we created a design that celebrated the artisans, restoration workers, landscapers and the communities and workers whose labor & sweat the previous owners profited off. Also the imagery shows the different iterations of the main building as it expanded from Jacobean mansion to present day Georgian ruin.
